When you hear the phrase dream bigger, what does that mean to you? Weather you are 10 or 75, we all have dreams…goals…our why. That dream or why should get us up out of bed every day and on our way to a wonderful, productive day. What is my reason to dream bigger? I’ll tell you what it means to me. And if you’d like to join me on this adventure… go here to see more!
Early Beginnings – My Childhood
I grew up on a small dairy farm. We also farmed along with it. So, it felt like there was never time to just stop and be a kid. There was always some type of farm work or milking cows to be done. My mom got sick for awhile during my tween/teen years, so my responsibilites grew meaning even less time to be a kid and experience that time freedom. On top of the daily farm chores, I was now responsible for all of the cooking, help with the cleaning and helping raise my little sister and brother. To this day, I have very motherly instincts toward them even though they are both pushing 40! Some habits die hard…lol.
Growing up, we didn’t know anything about financial freedom. It seemed as though money was always tight even though I didn’t hear my parents talk about it a lot. Somehow, I just knew. I didn’t bother asking for name brand clothes because I knew my parents really could not afford that luxury and didn’t want to burden them in the way I saw my friends do to thier parents. I remember, for my junior prom, I did convince my mom to buy me a pair of Doc Martins so I could wear them with my cute, little, inexpensive dress I picked out ( I had a unique sense of fashion back then, but it worked!). When she said yes, I was over the moon excited and cherished those shoes until they fell apart!
Moving into Adulthood
Of course after you graduate high school, the next thing to do is to move onto college, get that degree and go get a J.O.B (what we often refer to as just over broke). I really didn’t want to go straight into college after high school. I wanted to take a break from school and work for awhile while I tried to figure out what I really wanted in life. My father (bless his heart…he only wanted what was best for me) instisted that I go to college – for something – anything. I have always been a very nurturing, motherly type, so I knew that I definitely wanted to go to school for something where I could help or take care of people. So, I started nursing school.
I wasn’t happy in college from day one. I was beyond out of my comfort zone and still not sure that was really where I wanted to be. I needed time to think and just BE. I never had opportunities to just BE…I grew up at a very young age when I had to start raising my little sister and brother at the age of 6.
Just a couple of months in, I decided to leave college. It just wasn’t working. I got a job and started working.
The Spark That Started the Dreams
Shortly after I left college, I found out I was pregnant and my life forever changed for the better! It’s amazing how much a child can spark your ambition to dream bigger and that’s exactly what my precious little boy did for me! I went back to school, started some online classes to be a massage therapist and started working at a chiropractic clinic. Soon after that, I started dating the man I married. He is still my prince charming 21 years later. Finally…I had found a good one! Dreams really do come true! 🙂
Dream Bigger
After my husband and I got married, we immediately starting dreaming about country life. Afterall, we were both raised on farms so I guess it’s true that it’s just in our blood. Low and behold about a month after we started seriously talking about looking for houses in the country, my father-in-law called and asked if we’d like to take over the farm! It was a no brainer! So, 2 months later, we were packed up and moved to the farm where we still live 21 years later. Thank goodness for my daily nutrition that keeps me going after all these years! Farming is no easy job. See my favorites here! 🙂
Though I was ectatic to be living out in the country again and fufulling yet another dream of being a wife and stay at home mom, I still wanted a little more. I knew there was something out there that I could do from home, online and still be able to be here raising my children and helping my husband on the farm while being able to contribute financially to our family. I looked and looked and tried many things that promised the moon but took me absolutely nowhere.
After a 10 year search, I came across the very business I’m still involved in today. You can see it here. I’ve been working this business for over 6 years now and couldn’t love it more! Not only does it provide financially, but it also provides an ongoing education that will never stop. We have a uptopian society and are a Christian based group who strive to teach others how they can achieve their goals and dream bigger too. It also provides those things I missed out learning about as a kid. Time Freedom and Financial Freedom.
Keep Dreaming
So, what do I dream about these days? As you know, my husband and I own and operate our farm/ranch which is a full time, year round business that does not leave a lot of room for travel. Traveling is something we would both love to do, so my biggest dream is to make enough money with my business that we are able to sell our heard of cattle. That would give us both time and financial freedom so we can go do more of the things we love!
My list of dreams and goals:
- Financial Freedom
- Time Freedom
- Renovations on my old farmhouse
- TRAVELING with my husband
- Being able to give more to charitable causes
- Living Life on MY terms
- Always striving to improve myself and my health
These things are not only something I desire for myself now in my adult years, but something I hope to teach my children so they can have the freedoms they deserve through out their lives. I want to teach them to dream bigger at a much younger age then when dream bigger was taught to me.
Now that I know I can dream bigger, I WILL – you can count on that! And now, I’m dreaming of a nice glass of red wine as I end my day. I think I’ll go pour me one! See my favorites HERE – CHEERS!!
